New Horizon Family
A way out for street children

Love. Protection. Care. Trust. These are the fundamental characteristics of family. When we began our street work, it was our aim to provide street children with a loving family home. And at New Horizon Family, we’ve done exactly that.

History

The New Horizon Family Home (NHF) has a seven year history, it was founded back in 2011 and currently has a capacity of 25 children, all boys ranging from ages, 9-14. The boys are currently enrolled in the nearby St. Francis of Assisi school.

Philosophy

The home is also based on a philosophy of trauma informed principles and goals for children, with the aim of helping them overcome their past and make peace with it, provision of education and training to prepare them for life as adults and a restoration of dignity to them and their families and communities.

Programs

Our home based in Machakos, offers holistic care to former street children. We offer food, shelter, education, security and create an environment where they can comfortably adapt and call home, form tight knit relationships and develop
themselves without inhibitions

 LocalAid Community Clinic

Healthy communities are happy communities which are capable of creating sustainable economic environments. We provide accessible and affordable healthcare to the community.

At the beginning of 2009 we established LocalAid Community Health Clinic in Ngando, an urban slum in Nairobi, Kenya, where most  locals barely have access to affordable health care. At present the clinic provides accessible health care services which include;  health consultations, laboratory testing, treatments, minor surgeries, therapy centre for children living with disabilities and HIV/AID’S testing & counselling.

Since our inception, our clinic has held a strong focus on essential support services for people living with HIV/AID’s. We provide the following services to the community;  VCT( Vocational Counseling and Testing), Home Based Care, guidance and support programs and PMTCT ( prevention from mother to child transmission) awareness.

Progress

10,500
people have been counseled and tested through our VCT that conducts site and outreach activities. Those found to be HIV positive have been assisted and many are living positively.

15,000
have  participated in our community mobilization to promote healthy behaviors and reduce stigma, gender inequality, and other norms that contribute to TB and HIV.
120
boys aging 7-19 were given free male medical circumcision.

Therapy centre for children living with disabilties

Our therapy station has been operational for 3 years now and this has been made possible through our partnership with a Norwegian based organization, Global Orphanage Foundation. As such, we continue supporting children born with disabilities, particularly those with Cerebral Palsy, Rickets, Muscular Dystrophy and Menengitis.

Tribearth

Tribearth is a socially conscious jewellery brand that aims to create a community of empowered women living with HIV who produce handmade pieces in a sustainable and ethical environment. 100% of the profits made go towards sustaining the projects mentioned above, such as our children's home and health clinic.

Handmade

Creating tribal inspired jewellery. Each piece is handmade with recycled and locally sourced materials. Materials such as antiques, belts, gemstones and offcuts are upcycled making each piece fundamentally unique.

The women

Tribearth believes there is hope for women from underprivileged communities in Kenya to achieve a sustainable livelihood through employment opportunities and entrepreneurship. Tribearth also recognizes the potential that women living with HIV/AID’s have and the role they can play to improve the country’s economy. The integration of women in the Kenyan’s economical system basically requires the establishment of innovative business modules and access to the right markets, such as Tribearth.

How we are different

Tribearth is not only a jewellery and clothing brand. Eventually, we aim to create an eco-friendly, self-sustainable business village where the artisans can communally live and work in an environment that promotes creativity and efficiency. By employing this method, we aim to break the traditional factory feel of corporate production cycles and empower the women through an interactive community.
