LocalAid has been working in Kenya for 10 years and one of our main goals is to empower former street children through education. The right to a quality education is just one of the rights that street children are denied. Yet education is the most effective way to enable street children to reintegrate into society. We have educated 84 children, eight of which have graduated from high school and one who is attending university this year.
However, as with all growth, sustainability has become an issue because of various factors, one of them being inflation. Since 2009, the inflation rate in Kenya has risen at a steady rate of 7% every year and in some years has gone as high as 11.99%. This has meant that we have had to go to incredible lengths to make sure we provide the service that we do with the resources that we have.
Another factor is incidentals; this includes medical care, school trips, need for uniforms, textbooks, stationary writing materials etc.
We need your help to raise the fees and other education costs for 40 children this year.
