LocalAid is a non-profit organization primarily focused on the welfare and dignity of low-income communities and vulnerable children of underdeveloped countries.
How it all started.
I sponsored a little girl from Kenya when I was 15 years old and ever since then, it’s been my life-long dream to visit Africa to do some humanitarian work. Even though I was travelling the world as a Fashion Designer and had a wardrobe that most of my friends would die to own, something was still eating me up inside. I didn’t want to be just happy, but to matter. To make a difference in the world. To know I put a smile on a child’s face was the satisfaction I was craving and the liberation I was seeking and in all honesty as I evolved that was still not enough. What use is a smile if it cannot be sustained? It needed a foundation. I wanted to provide opportunities that taught values, created sustainable life styles and empowered beyond foreign financial dependency. I created LocalAid so that money invested, is money well directed.

Upon my first trip to Kenya, I was lucky enough to meet an inspiring woman named Josephine. Josephine was a trained community health worker who had been volunteering in the slums for approximately 10 years. I spoke to her about my ideas and, as serendipity would have it, our visions were similarly aligned. We spoke of ideas and concepts and how we could change things but I felt that she was wary of me as just another foreigner who came to Kenya, made big promises and left. When I returned to Kenya, Josephine began to trust me more and saw how committed I was to the cause. We went on to establish LocalAid and she became the country director. We initially set up a health clinic and a year later, the street child program was created after we visited street kids on Christmas Day and were horrified by what they endure on a daily basis. Even though I had no idea where the funds would come from, I promised them I would do something. And so LocalAid was born."
